The founder

The story of Ensomono begins long before the brand itself, rooted in a fascination with material, form, and the pursuit of precision.

Fabien Franzen, designer and master craftsman, first trained in jewelry design. In this discipline, proportion, detail, and finish are everything. Over time, his focus shifted to leather, drawn by its unique potential in shape, texture, and tactility.

In 2012, a commission to design an eyewear case for a brand in Antwerp’s Diamond District led him to Ubrique, Spain, an international benchmark for leather craftsmanship. Over the next five years, regular visits allowed him to absorb the region’s exacting standards of excellence. In 2018, these experiences culminated in the creation of his first collection, Odisea.

It was a valuable education, but also a confirmation. The goal was never to join that system, but to challenge it. To build something smaller, more personal, and entirely his own.

Around the same time, he met the late Ralph Baggaley, a master leather craftsman near Brussels. Though retired from production, Ralph’s knowledge and quiet integrity left a lasting impression. His atelier revealed what a clear and uncompromising workspace could be, and helped crystallize a vision that at the time still felt out of reach.

In early 2020, Fabien decided to turn that vision into reality. A fully equipped atelier was established in Belgium, built not for scale but to explore the craft in depth and freedom. What followed were five years of dedicated development and refinement, leading to the signature collection that defines Ensomono today.

Every piece is created in-house, by hand, with a deep respect for the material and a commitment to contemporary craftsmanship. It is work rooted in skill, intention, and an uncompromising eye for detail.
